Congregational Covenant for the Present and Future Members, Friends, and Supporters of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church Rockledge, PA

Recognizing that Jesus, the Bible, and the Book of Common Prayer are our authorities for governing our behavior and relationships with one another, we, the Members, Friends, and Supporters of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church Rockledge in the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, therefore, agree to the following Covenant:

We Covenant Together to love one another and our ordained clergy by:

  • Creating and nurturing within the congregation a safe and trusting atmosphere in which all can feel comfortable and welcome.
  • Being sensitive to the different styles and personalities of individuals.
  • Seeking to validate, appreciate, acknowledge, and understand the unique and special gifts of each person.

We Covenant Together to treat each person with love and respect by:

  • Speaking and acting in such a way as to build up and support one another.
  • Confronting issues without demeaning anyone.
  • Speak about and to each other in kindness and love.
  • Recognizing that certain discussions are of a confidential nature, thus maintaining good and wise judgment in respecting confidentiality.
  • Confronting with love those individuals who have hurt me in any way by following Jesus' principles (Matthew 18:15-17) for conflict resolution between individuals:
  1. Speaking first to the individual alone in private.
  2. If to no avail, bring another neutral church member into the conversation.
  3. And then, if necessary, take the matter to the parish priest.
  • Practicing forgiveness.
  • Seeking to encourage one another.
  • Nurturing a servant attitude of serving both God and God's church.

We Covenant Together to seek God's will by striving for unity in all matters by:

  • Joining the entire church in submitting significant matters to prayer, especially prior to voting or decision-making.
  • Always seeking to better understand others.
  • Submitting to one another in love.
  • Engage in discussions, conversations, and actions that are wholesome and loving only.

We Covenant Together to be examples to one another and to non-members of our church by striving to:

  • Faithfully attend Sunday worship and regularly receive Holy Communion.
  • Consistently engage in the study of Holy Scripture, especially the teachings of Jesus.
  • Live out the Christian life through regular, sacrificial giving of time, talent, and treasure to support the ministry and mission of the church.
  • Support the church through active attendance and participation.
  • Be faithful to the mission and vision statements of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in Rockledge and the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania. (See below)
